Super Bowl 2012: What’s it all mean?

Glued to the TV screen with a bag a chips, cant seem to get comfortable because watching your team lose momentum is enough to make any fan squirm.  The Super Bowl is watched by millions around the world, its a day full of sports and lazyness.  A sports fanatics dream.  A health fanatics nightmare.  But what is all said and done when that bowl of chips is down to the last crumb and the game ends.  Its these questions that shape the legacy of the game and whats to come.  Here are the questions that I feel will shape Super Bowl  XLVI  forever:

1.) The player with the most active Super Bowl rings, a domiante force in the NFL now has two losses to Eli Manning and the Giants.  Will he ever be on top again?

The Patriots enter every year with the chance to win the division and make it to the promised land.  Its a “been there done that” kind of attitude.  The coaching staff is one of the best in the league, they have a veteran prescense.  But we are contnuing to see that Dynasty is no longer the face of the league, its teams like the Giants and Ravens who are looking to change the tide of history.  The NFL is much improved.

2.) Tom Brady is 34. How much longer can he play?

Every sport fan “what if’s”, it what makes us fans of the game.  This is one of those instances, and its no so far fetched. Tom Brady is that face of the Patriots, and its his leadership that has led this team to greatness. The Quaterback position is tough, as we saw with the Peyton Manning injury and numerous others during the season.  Can Brady really take the damage at his age? Id say give him two years.

*Brady was 0-5 in passes over 20 yards

3.) Does the Ahmad Bradshaw play, shape the game for years to come?

We all know that if Bradshaw had layed down on the one, like Brian Westbrook did in a game against the Cowboys the Patriots would have had no chance.  The Tom Brady hail mary with just ticks left was nearly caught by tight end Rob Gronkowski.  What if the Patriots had prevailed?  Id say teams will continue to run the ball to drain the clock, although we may see some more sweeps then dives.

4.)Patience wins games, or is it just if your named Mario?

It has to be tough for a player to start the season as a starter, lose his job to salsa boy, then have one of his biggest catches of the year on the biggest stage.  Mario Manningham is the definition of patience, after catching a 38yard ball to set up the winning touchdown.  I’m not saying we are going to see more Manningham catches, but I will venture to say QB’s might start looking for that other wideout in big situations.

5.) The Giants are talented, but do they have luck on thier side as well?

Yes, the Giants have two Super Bowl rings under Eli Manning.  Yes, he did show poise and talent in both wins.  But you can’t help to wonder if all the Giants carry around a four leaf clover on gameday.  The David Tyree catch in 2007, maybe one of the toughest grabs of all time from a guy who had just three catches during the season.  He was a blocker not a catcher, at least thats what we thought.  Or this year when Devin Thomas a pesky wide out looked like a special teams guru picking up a fumble to set up a touchdown and stipping the ball for the game winner in the NFC Championship game.  The game yesterday, a saftey on Tom Brady on intentional grounding (rare) or the Victor Cruz fumble that was turned back due to the Patiriots having to many men on the field.  Id say the Giants are good, lucky and that makes for a storied football franchise.
